The National Coalition for Arts’ Preparedness and Emergency Response – NCAPER – has received a 3-year, $500,000 grant to support capacity building from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This funding will allow the Coalition to build its capacity to work on national policy and practice to include the arts in emergency management planning and funding, to provide trained arts responders to disaster-hit areas, and to build a national communications and education network to increase resiliency of the arts sector. Since summer 2017, NCAPER has held almost 50 arts recovery calls with those impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, and the California wildfires. Calls with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are continuing, due to the devastation and needs of these communities.
